North Vegas, circa 2006. A 5 Line flying machine made from mayhem and inflated with chaos. The Dealer of Death, the Diabolic Diablo, Wicked Justice… and my first real F%$# around and find out experience with a kite. Yes – I did, and I did.
I bought this kite in 2009 or 10, a bar and who knows what else from eBay after watching a few YouTube videos on kiteboarding. A 14m C kite build for performance. The bar was too small for the kite, and the kite was too big for the wind. I didn’t have lessons, not much yet in the way of online instruction, and the winds in the Aleutian Islands are some of the roughest in the world. What could go wrong? As the stories go – everything! I body dragged skipped down Unalaska Lake in Dutch Harbor for a year before buying my second kites. A 12m Best Kahoona and an 8m Best Waroo. Lucky to be alive!
